What is the VSME Standard?
The VSME, the Voluntary Sustainability Reporting Standard for non-listed SMEs, was published by EFRAG and delivered to the European Commission in December 2024. It gives smaller companies one simple framework to answer the ESG questions they get from banks, investors, and larger customers.
CSRD only mandates large companies, but that obligation trickles down the value chain to their suppliers. The VSME is the proportionate counterpart to the full ESRS, a recognised cap on what buyers can ask, so you report once instead of filling out dozens of bespoke questionnaires.

VSME reporting, answered.
The VSME is the Voluntary Sustainability Reporting Standard for non-listed micro, small, and medium enterprises, published by EFRAG. It is designed for SMEs that sit outside the mandatory scope of CSRD but still receive ESG data requests from banks, investors, and larger companies in their value chain, giving them one common framework to answer them all.
No. The VSME is voluntary. But in practice, large CSRD-bound companies are gathering sustainability data from their suppliers, and the European Commission has recommended the VSME as the cap on what those buyers can ask of SME suppliers. Reporting once to the VSME means you can satisfy those requests without adopting the full ESRS.
The Basic Module is the entry level. Its 11 disclosures cover emissions, energy, pollution, water, waste, workforce, health & safety, and anti-corruption, and it is the recommended target for most SMEs. The Comprehensive Module adds Scope 3 emissions, reduction targets, transition plans, climate risk, and human rights metrics for SMEs facing deeper requests from investors and lenders.
LatSpace guides you through each Basic Module disclosure with plain-language inputs, so no standards expertise is required. It turns energy bills and meter data into Scope 1 and 2 figures automatically, ties every number back to a source document for auditors, and exports a clean, share-ready VSME report in a single click.
Yes. Every disclosed figure is linked to its source evidence, so your report carries a transparent data trail that buyers, lenders, and auditors can trust. Because the VSME is an EFRAG standard recognised across the EU, a VSME report is a credential your value-chain partners already understand.
